Writing Help

I strongly recommend you consider getting help, or helping yourself, very early on in the semester. The truth is that Expos is a rigorous course, and the more help you get, the better off you'll be.

Here are some resources available to you:

  • The 101 Course Homepage has a number of resources, including the Gradatorium, which has sample papers and an explanation of how grading works, the Tutorama, which offers week-by-week self-directed tutorials, and the Link-O-Mat, which contains links to help you place the readings in a broader context.
  • The Resources for Teaching 101 page has all the info we provide our teachers. You're welcome to explore and use these resources as well.
  • The Writing Centers are located on Douglass, CAC, and Livingston campuses. Tutoring is free, though it does ask you to make a minimum five week commitment. Tutors at the Writing Centers are specially trained to deal with the issues of 101. I strongly recommend the Writing Centers, even if this is a virtual class (actually, especially since this is a virtual class).
  • The New Humanities Reader Companion CD has additional resources to give you a jump start in 101. What's more, the cd also has Digital Keys, a grammar and English handbook.
