April 11
What We Missed
First off, apologies for being so flaky the last week or so. First I forgot to make a class and then I forgot to upload one. My bad. I won't take off for late rough drafts because of that, but I do need to SEE a draft for that to happen. So if you've been confused by my absence lately, make sure you send me a rough draft if you did not post one to the forum.
Also, be SURE to read the class for Apr 09, which has VITAL information about the final exam. Go do that right now. Yes now. Go! OK?
Abram
Doesn't seem like anyone wants to discuss Abram yet. I am hoping that means you found it pretty easy to digest. I'm still working on the final paper assignment (more on that below), but you should efinitely be paying attention to everything Abram has to say about the shaman and her/his role in indigenous communities. You should also take note of everything Abram has to say about magic, and the relationship of all that to ecology.
Paper Six
If you look at the Schedule of Classes, we have quite a bit of time to work on Paper Six. Given that, I want to suggest something new: I'd like for people to send me ideas for an assignment for Paper Six. The only requirement is that it must work with Abram and two other essays, and I suggest you let the writer choose which other two essays to work with.
I'll need assignment suggestions sent to me by next Tuesday at 11:30am, so I can sort through and post something next class.
This will mean some adjustment to the syllabus. On the Schedule of Classes, note these changes. Essentially, it's going to work like this:
- APR 11: Between now and Tuesday you send me assignment suggestions.
- APR 16: I post the assignment.
- APR 18: Partial rough draft is due. This should be at least a statement of your project and an outline. We'll use these for peer revision, and I'll make brief comments on all of these.
- APR 25: Full rough draft due.
- MAY 02: Paper Due.
Paper Five
Please get these to me by Friday at 8PM. Email to barrios@optonline.com
To Do for Next Class:
- Discuss Abram.
- Make assignment suggestion.
- Think about when you can take the final (see Apr 09 class).
