Computer Classroom I

Today's work is intended to give you a start on the paper due Thursday. To that end, I want you to work on reading and analyzing the Roadmap to Peace.

GOAL: The goal of our work today is to give you practice with a number of skills:

  1. Analyzing real world documents like the Roadmap.
  2. Using Web sources to contextualize materials like the Roadmap.
  3. Critically evaluating information you find on the Web for accuracy and bias.
  4. Applying varied information resources to political events.

INDIVIDUAL WORK (~20 minutes): We'll start by working individually. Basically, you want to read the Roadmap (or parts of it) and begin grounding yourself in the larger issues (or parts of them):

  1. Start by going to http://www.state.gov/r/pa/prs/ps/2003/20062.htm and printing out a copy of the Roadmap if you don't already have one.
  2. Read through the document (or at least skim it).
  3. Visit some of these sites:
  4. If you'd like, locate other sites using Google that speak to the Roadmap, Boyarin, or anything else that might help in this paper.

GROUP WORK (~20 minutes): Form groups of four. As a group, formulate an answer to the following question: "What are the chances of success for the Roadmap to Peace, and why?" Your answer cannot be based solely on cynicism, pessimism, or optimism; instead, you all should be able to defend your answer by referring to the Roadmap or supporting materials found on the Web.
